Salvation

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  John 3:17-18

When we readthe entire New Testament of the Bible, from Matthew to Revelation, observing each verse that tells us how we might gain eternal life in heaven.  Can it be explained better than this?  God is telling us that if we will simply believe and trust in Jesus, we will have eternal life in Heaven but that if we do not believe in him, we will have eternal life in Hell.  This is because Jesus (God) came to this earth primarily to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins on our behalf.  If we do not believe or trust in that great sacrifice, or decide that we will do it our own way, we are lost.

It is a right of oursto obey the commandments and to help other people and to attend church and to be baptized to show that we are Christians and to take communion to remember Jesus and his sacrifice.  We should do these things out of Love and remembrance for what Jesus has done for us.   But, if we start to think that any of these things will save us, to that extent we are trusting in self and fellow man and his devices, and not entirely on Jesus – is this where you want to be on Judgment day?

God has provided everything that we need in Jesus and his sacrifice – let us therefore, as the Bible commands us, believe and trust alone in Jesus alone to gain eternal life and then, out of gratitude, do the good things that He wants us to do!
